Stephanie J. Woods, a multidisciplinary artist, and Johannes Barfield, a sample-based visual and sound artist, spent two inspiring weeks at the Back River Road artist residency and retreat. During this time, they reconnected with nature, worked on a collaborative project, exercised, and enjoyed drive-in movies under the stars.
Traveling from the arid landscapes of New Mexico, where they are assistant professors at the University of New Mexico, to the lush greenery of Vermont was a refreshing change. On the enchanting property, they found inspiration inside Ed Levine’s mesmerizing architectural sculpture, Shaker Building, where they engaged in thoughtful conversations and meditation.
During the residency, Stephanie focused on creating schematics for exhibitions, while Johannes composed sonic paintings and sketches in response to Stephanie’s exhibition blueprints.
